Chess Game

3D model of a chess game

For this project I made scene with chess pieces, chessboard, table and chairs. Below you can find AR versions of the 3D models that I made for this scene.

Chess Pieces

Using Maya for the chess pieces in this scene, I used a reference image, starting with a cylinder and removing the top face. Then I extruded up following the reference image. I then for the bishop piece I created a cylinder and extruded to be fully though the bishop and extruded one of the faces to get it to cut out the area of the bishop.

I then made a UV map using the automatic setting to be exported to Adobe Substance 3D Painter to add the textures. Then with the textures exported as Arnold and in Maya using the aiStandardSurface to assign my textures.

ChessBoard

For the chessboard I start with a box. I moved some of the faces to create a more rounded edge to the chessboard. Then I created a custom UV map, sending to Adobe Substance 3D Painter to add textures. Other then that it was the same as way I did with the Chess Pieces.

When adding the interactable 3D object for this webpage, I had to reexport the textures for the chessboard. This was to make it looking more to how it was in the photo of this scene. As the previous textures used don’t translate well to this web format.

Table

For the Table I used a few cylinders and stack on top of each other. Then I used a cylinder and extruded one of the faces to make the table’s leg. Then I duplicated it to make the rest of the table legs. For textures it was the same way I did the Chess Pieces.

Chair

For the Chairs I used boxes and extruded them around to make more of a chair shape. For textures it was the same way I did the Chess Pieces.
